NOW Website Content - Quality Assurance

The following principles apply to material on the BOS website:

1. The Website Editor is a qualified Orthodontist on the Specialist List of the General Dental Council. All the material on the site has been approved by the Editor prior to publication. Most of the clinical material has been composed by Specialist Orthodontists.

2. The information for patients is intended to supplement any information supplied by their own Orthodontist. For advice on the management of specific problems a consultation with an Orthodontist must be sought.

3. Confidentiality of personal data submitted to the site is respected and we do not pass on data on visitors except where it is the clear intention that it should be passed on to a specific destination, as in email messages, on-line surveys or purchases.

4. Where data is drawn from a refereed source, we would aim to quote the detailed reference of the source.

5. We aim to avoid unjustifiable claims for benefits and performance. Any claims made shall be evidence-based as far as possible, although the evidence on some questions in orthodontics is not as yet adequate to give definitive answers and some material may have to be based on clinical experience or clinical consensus for the time being.

6. We aim to make the material intended for public use readily comprehensible to the average user. More technical material aimed at Orthodontists will not necessarily be in this form.

7. The website is funded by the British Orthodontic Society, a registered charity and is independent of any other interest. We may however from time to time include reference to commercial bodies who have sponsored some aspect of the Society's work.

8. Any advertising material will be clearly identified as such to the user.

9. The great majority of the website will be accessible to the public without registration. There is however a small Members Area devoted to members matters which requires members to sign in.

10. The content of the site is under regular editorial review and is regularly updated as necessary.
